An Inside Look At The Best Resources For Pet Owners In Cambridge
To most people, pets are family, and they should be treated as such. After all, the positive impact they have on our lives is significant – lower blood pressure, reduced stress and anxiety and an increase in physical activity. Some studies even show that owning a pet helps people recover from heart attacks and decreases the risk of asthma in children. Fortunately, Cambridge is a great place to live if you have a furry friend. There are a number of pet friendly apartments for rent, like Proto Kendall Square for example, as well as dog parks, pet sitting options, and even restaurants that welcome dogs. We want to make sure that your pet is as happy living in Cambridge as you are, so we put together a list of our favorite places that are perfect for pups. Let’s start with the areas best dog parks and trails:
Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Park – Both you and your pup can get some energy out at this multi-use park, which offers visitors a lovely 2.5 loop around a pond that dogs can cool off in. Though dogs must stay off mowed lawns, those with a Cambridge dog license are allowed off-leash in the pond and on most paved trails.
Danehy Dog Park – This is an off-leash, fenced dog park which includes a separate small dog area, gravel ground cover, drinking water and benches. The surrounding park is beautiful, and many visitors choose to walk their pups outside the fenced area.
Pacific Street Dog Park – Here you’ll find another off-leash, fenced park, but be sure to bring your own water as none is provided. In the past, the park got muddy in rain and snow, but sand has been brought in to rectify the problem. Now it’s a comfortable space for dogs to play and owners to socialize.
Gold Star Mothers Park – If you own a home in Cambridge or live in one of the city’s many pet friendly rentals, make sure to get your dog licensed so you can enjoy parks like this one. Only Cambridge residents that have a current license for their dog can use the off-leash hours, which are between 6am-9am. Non-residents may visit the park but their pup is to remain leashed at all times.
Cambridge residents love to decompress at local eateries after a long day, and many want their BFF (best friend Fido) by their side. Here are some of our favorite spots to grab a bite amongst fellow dog lovers.
Cambridge Brewing Company – With a wide selection of beers on tap, as well as burgers, pizza and seafood, the patio at Cambridge Brewing Company is a great option for patrons with well-behaved pups.
Charlies Kitchen – This ’50’s era diner has a patio and outdoor beer garden that both welcome dogs, and they have delicious food to boot!
Jose’s – This Mexican restaurant has an outdoor patio that is great for patrons and their pups. Word to the wise, the margaritas are known to be strong!
Area Four – We mentioned Kendall Square’s Area Four in a previous post about Proto’s surrounding neighborhood, and we’ll do it again since it’s one of our favorites. In addition to their delicious pizza, entrees and cocktails, they have fifteen outdoor tables that are perfectly pet friendly.
Tatte Bakery & Cafe – If you need a pick me up while strolling with your pup, check out this local favorite. Tatte serves classic and specialty beverages as well as breakfast plates, salads, bowls and sandwiches.
