Don’t Miss These “Must Try” Restaurants in Cambridge
Boston Magazine put out their list of the 50 best restaurants in the Boston area, and Cambridge had a great showing with 11 of the city’s restaurants making the list – Alden & Harlow, Area Four (a dog-friendly favorite of ours at Proto Kendall Square), Bondir, Cafe Artscience, Cafe du Pays, Cafe Sushi, Craigie on Main, Guilia, Oleana, and Puritan & Company. While we agree that all of these restaurants are superb, there are a few more favorites of those that own and rent in Cambridge that deserve a mention. Here they are:
Russell House Tavern – Though the food is great and the craft cocktails are better than great, this restaurant stands out for ambiance, location and service. The ambiance is perfect for any occasion, whether it be a casual night out in Cambridge or a more formal dinner with family or colleagues. It’s located in the busiest area of Harvard Square, and on a warm day, you can sit on the outdoor patio and take in the sights of this diverse and fascinating neighborhood. Bruch here is also reliably delicious and most of the time you can get in easily (especially with a reservation), which can be uncommon for the best restaurants in Cambridge.
Catalyst – With an inviting and comfortable ambiance, you can expect the freshest of ingredients in the inventive dishes that are served at Catalyst. If you live in the apartments near MIT this is a particularly good option as it’s in close proximity to campus and offers a cozy escape from the bustle of some of Cambridge’s other popular destinations. If you’re coming for brunch make sure to check out the Bloody Mary’s, they’re reason enough to visit this Kendall Square gem!
Glass House – Located near Proto, the newest luxury apartments for rent in Kendall Square, Glass House has a remarkable beer list that rotates frequently, as well as a seasonal cocktail menu. It’s great for groups with its spacious layout and variety of small plates that are perfect for sharing. The patio is sizable and has an outdoor bar, and during the summer you can expect live music, cornhole sets and ping pong tables – perfect for celebrating the glorious Boston summer!
Za – If you want tasty cocktails and interesting pizza options, you should definitely check this place out. It’s an excellent place to grab a cocktail after work, especially if you work in the area or live in a nearby Kendall Square apartment. They also offer a 10% discount to customers who show their receipt from Charles River Canoe & Kayak, so it’s a great and affordable place to go after an outing on the river! Za is a casual restaurant, but it has a nice ambiance, reliably delicious food and good service.
There are numerous benefits to living in apartments near Cambridge – proximity to downtown Boston and The Charles River, great options for entertainment and recreation, an enlightened and fun population of residents – but access to such a large group of the areas most exquisite restaurants is certainly at the top of the list for most.
